Natural Fabrics

AW24

Since 1987 we aim to create pieces that can lay the foundation for your wardrobe and can carry over from season to season. We also work as much as possible with natural fibers such as cotton, silk, linen, and wool, because these yarns have a longer-lasting quality, are biodegradable and renewable.

Wool

Wool is a natural fibre that is obtained from animals such as goats, sheep and camels. We love to work with wool because it is a cosy warmer for our cold-weather wardrobe. Wool is by far the warmest natural fibre because it is a thick and heavy yarn that has tiny air pockets to retain heat. We use wool in our knitwear, outerwear, skirts and trousers.

Merino wool

We make a distinction between wool and merino wool (a yarn that is derived from merino sheep) since the latter has a slightly softer touch, and is therefore more suited for the sensitive skin. The merino sheep are known for one of the finest types of wool, which is softer than regular wool. It is high in quality and can be spun into fine wire threads that create a breathable material. Rue Blanche uses merino wool in lightweight knitwear for a fluid drape, and in more robust styles for a cosy look that remains soft.

100% winter cotton

Cotton is a plant-based fibre that is derived from the cotton plant. It is loved and used in wardrobe basics for its durability, breathability and ease of care. In our summer collections we have many options made from 100% cotton yarns, such as high twisted cotton or fully combed cotton knitwear, but in the cold season, our cotton production is limited to cotton shirts.

Natural blends

When we mix natural yarns together, we do this to create a garment that is superior and mixes the best of both worlds. Balancing a successful combination can make a more durable, airy, cosy or lightweight garment. A good example in a typical Rue Blanche winter collection is our staple Cashcot group. These long-sleeved t-shirts are made from a cotton-cashmere blend for more comfort and warmth.

Both cotton and linen fabrics are some of the most durable textile materials around and combining them avoids the disadvantages each of the material has. The combination of the two also make it a perfect choice for summer clothing, because the blend is airy, breathable and absorbs sweat.
